Jonathan McFadden

Jonathan McFadden joined OU’s Department of Economics in 2019 as a core hire through the College of Arts and Sciences’Data Scholarship Initiative, after spending four years as a research economist for the U.S. Department of Agriculture in Washington, D.C. He received his Ph.D. in economics at Iowa State University in 2015 following work as an energy economist at the Oklahoma Corporation Commission. His research examines the microeconomics of the environment, natural resources, food, and agriculture, much of which is relevant to U.S. and international policy. He has co-authored multiple peer-reviewed journal articles and U.S. federal government reports, in addition to economics white papers designed to inform national and international policymakers. His role among the BIC collaborators is to analyze the economics of carbon-free hydrogen and assess this sector’s development in Oklahoma and across the U.S.
